A playwright based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marie Kohler has written four plays since beginning her playwriting career in 1993 - all have been professionally produced and received significant recognition.

COUNTING DAYS earned a nomination as the American Association of Theater Critic's "Best New Regional Play" in 1995 and was a finalist in the Charlotte Repertory Theater's Best New Play Competition. MIDNIGHT AND MOLL FLANDERS was named "Best New Play of 2000" by Milwaukee Magazine which stated, "With MIDNIGHT, Kohler moves to the forefront of new voices in Milwaukee theater." BOSWELL'S DREAMS was named "Best of the Year" by Milwaukee Magazine and received exceptional reviews and dozens of letters from enthusiastic audience members when it was produced in March, 2005.

A member of the professional Milwaukee theater community as actor and producer for the past twenty years, Marie co-founded Renaissance Theaterworks in 1993 and serves as its Co-Artistic Director and Resident Playwright. Also a dramaturg and freelance writer for local and national publications, Ms. Kohler is the mother of two grown daughters. She lives in Milwaukee near Lake Michigan with her husband, a working actor. Raised in Wisconsin, Marie holds a BA from Harvard University (Magna Cum Laude) and an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Kohler was honored with the Milwaukee Arts Board 2005 "Artist of the Year" Award. She also served as Professional Guest Playwright Respondent at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) for Region III in 2006.

She is a member of The Dramatists Guild, Chicago Dramatists Workshop, Actors' Equity Association and the Wisconsin Society of Arts and Letters (Editorial Board).
